The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Japan (SpCCJ) hosted the 10th edition of the Spain–Japan Business Contribution Awards on 28 November 2025 at ENEKO Tokyo, bringing together leading figures from the Spanish and Japanese business communities, institutional representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Established in 2016, the Awards honour companies and organisations that have demonstrated excellence in strengthening economic, commercial, and cultural ties between Spain and Japan. This milestone 10th anniversary edition highlighted the continued growth of the bilateral relationship and the increasing importance of strategic collaboration in an ever-evolving global landscape.
His Excellency Mr. Iñigo de Palacio, Ambassador of Spain to Japan, and Mr. Kai Jacobsen, President of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Japan, opened the ceremony, emphasising a decade of shared accomplishments and the evolving partnership between the two nations.

The Japan Category Award was presented to Fujitsu Limited in recognition of its over fifty years of sustained contribution to Spain’s digital transformation. Since establishing operations in Spain in 1973, Fujitsu has played a central role in supporting the country’s technological advancement through industrial investment, data and analytics innovation, and the development of quantum-inspired technologies.
Through long-standing collaboration with universities, research centres, and public institutions, Fujitsu has significantly strengthened Spain’s digital capabilities and talent ecosystem. Its leadership in bilateral platforms further reflects its commitment to deepening Spain–Japan economic and technological cooperation.
Mr. Shunsuke Onishi, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Revenue Officer of Fujitsu Limited, accepted the award.

The Spain Category Award was granted to Iberia Airlines, recognised for nearly four decades of shaping connectivity between Spain and Japan. Since launching its first flights to Tokyo in the 1980s, Iberia has continued to reinforce direct links between the two countries, most recently reinstating the Madrid–Tokyo Narita direct route operated with the fuel-efficient Airbus A350 — currently the only non-stop air connection between both nations.
In addition to air service, Iberia plays an essential role in promoting Spain’s culture and image abroad, supporting business missions, tourism flows, and institutional engagement. Its commitment to sustainability, customer excellence, and commercial diplomacy has made the airline a key actor in the bilateral relationship.
The award was received by Mr. Carlos Pinacho, Business Developer for APAC and Japan.
The event also celebrated the remarkable growth and diversification of the Spanish business community in Japan, as well as the critical work carried out by the Chamber in unifying, supporting, and empowering its members. This 10th anniversary edition brought together more than 100 guests, representing over 40 different industries, reflecting the breadth and vitality of the Spain–Japan economic relationship.
The presence of senior representatives from key organisations — including the Japan Chamber of Commerce, the European Business Council, Cámara de España, the Embassy of Spain, and various Japanese institutions — reinforced the Chamber’s role as a trusted convener and a platform for collaboration, dialogue, and business development. Their participation highlighted the continued relevance of the SpCCJ as a bridge between business communities, public institutions, and private-sector leaders.
This gathering not only recognised excellence through the awards, but also showcased the Chamber’s ability to strengthen cohesion within the Spanish–Japan business ecosystem, creating an environment where companies can connect, grow, and thrive together.

This year’s anniversary edition was further distinguished by the presence of Ms. Inmaculada Riera, Director General of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce (Cámara de España), and Ms. Micaela Picazo, International Deputy Director.
Their participation underscored the close collaboration between Cámara de España and the SpCCJ, as well as the strategic importance of Japan as a key partner for Spanish industry and internationalisation efforts. Throughout their visit to Tokyo, Ms. Riera and Ms. Picazo engaged with public institutions, business leaders, and members of the Spanish community, reaffirming Cámara de España’s support for the Chamber’s activities and its mission in Japan.
Their active involvement in the Awards ceremony — including Ms. Riera’s remarks and her leadership of the evening’s kampai toast — added significant institutional weight and visibility to the 10th anniversary celebration.
