Time, Taste & Craftsmanship

June 17 @ 6:00 pm 8:30 pm JST

Dear members & friends,

Haute cuisine and watchmaking craftsmanship share a common foundation: precision, expertise, and an uncompromising attention to detail.

To create timepieces that endure for decades and gain value over time, Swiss watchmaker Breitling brings together expert artisans, skilled technicians, innovative techniques, and a deep respect for tradition. Every component is carefully selected and assembled, with each element playing a critical role in achieving the final precision of the whole.

A similar philosophy defines the work of Chef Mateu Villaret, owner of Restaurant Masia in Ginza. Inspired by his Catalan roots and the flavors of his childhood—shaped across Spain—and refined through international experience, including Japan and Singapore, his cuisine reflects a balance of tradition, technique, and personal expression. Each ingredient is treated with the same care and intention, contributing to a harmonious and precise final result.

Building on this shared philosophy, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Japan and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan come together to create a unique experience to discover Breitling’s craftsmanship and Chef Mateu’s culinary artistry, while connecting with like-minded professionals.

This event is designed as an informal, non-presentation experience, where Breitling and Chef Mateu will introduce their work and share key insights into watchmaking and haute cuisine, fostering interaction and exchange with attendees.

During the event, guests will have the opportunity to explore and purchase Breitling timepieces while enjoying a selection of carefully curated Spanish tapas and wines, prepared for the occasion by Chef Mateu and his team.

About Mateu Villaret, Chef owner Masia Tokyo

Mateu Villaret grew up surrounded by the natural richness of Catalonia, between the mountains and the sea. From an early age, he developed a deep curiosity for food, influenced by his family’s diverse culinary roots—his mother from La Mancha, his father from Catalonia, and his grandmother from Andalucía—each shaping his understanding of Spanish cuisine.

Driven by this passion, he pursued a career in gastronomy, training in renowned kitchens across Europe. He worked at leading establishments such as Sergi Arola Gastro (2 Michelin stars) in Madrid, and continued his journey in Amsterdam at prestigious venues including Ciel Bleu (2 Michelin stars), Serre (Michelin-selected), and Gala, a pioneer of modern Catalan cuisine in the Netherlands.

He later expanded his international experience in Singapore, working at Suju and Esquina, where he collaborated with globally recognized chefs such as Julien Royer, Fernando Arellano, Sun Kim, and LG Han.

In Japan, he joined the acclaimed 3 Michelin-starred restaurant Hajime in Osaka, before leading the Catalan restaurant Maspi, where his distinctive culinary style quickly gained recognition across the country.

In 2022, he opened his own restaurant, MASIA, in Ginza, Tokyo—bringing together his roots, international experience, and refined technique to offer a contemporary interpretation of Spanish cuisine.
