Running for My Life: One Lost Boy’s Journey from the Killing Fields of Sudan to the Olympic Games

20 February, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm JST

Running for My Life is not a story about Africa or track-and-field athletics. It is about outrunning the devil and achieving the impossible; it is about faith, diligence, and the desire to give back. It is the American dream come true and a stark reminder that saving one can help save thousands more.

Prisma Books, a young editorial group owned by our corporate member Delta Commerce Japan is making their public presentation coinciding with the launching of their 3rd book, a fascinating story about Lopez Lomong. From his survival in a prison refugee camp during the Sudanese Civil War to being a Nike-sponsored athlete on the U.S. Olympic Team.

Join us on Monday, February 20 from 19h to discover this, and other stories published by Prisma Books in a panel with its founder, the chief editor, and a Japanese translator followed by a networking time with delicious flavours of Spain through a featuring collaboration between Oui Wine, paella el Paeller and other surprises.

An empowering journey through the mechanisms of the mind from one of the world’s leading mental health experts.

For those in pursuit of a better life, psychiatrist Marian Rojas Estapé presents the essential guide to neuroscience-driven mindfulness. Understanding your brain, managing your emotions, and being aware of your responses to stressors can give you greater self-control. Rather than a gimmicky guidebook, this is a thorough look at how our brains react to stress, threats, hyperstimulation, and the vices of our digital age. With proven techniques backed by solid, up-to-date psychiatric research, Estapé teaches us how to make the best of our lives.

Combining science, psychology, and philosophy, Estapé delivers practical advice about how we can cultivate a happy existence. This includes understanding the parts of the brain, setting healthy goals and objectives, strengthening willpower, cultivating emotional intelligence, developing assertiveness, avoiding excessive self-criticism and self-demand, and mastering the proven art of optimism.

The business world

Oe Masahiko

The author has 20 years of business experience in the United States, where the key to success in business, especially among white-collar workers, is having an MBA. There are many cases where one cannot even get a job without one, so much so that the author has doubts about the MBA degree. He has seen many MBA graduates who are egg-headed, as it were, to the point of not being able to succeed. Through his own experience, the author explains what it means to sell something and what it means to be customer-oriented.

Oe Masahiko was born on December 3, 1946, he graduated from Doshisha University in 1970 with a degree in economics, and joined Matsushita Electric (Panasonic) in 1970. In May 2002 he became Vice President of Hisamitsu America (Los Angeles). In April 2008 he became a contract lecturer at Doshisha Women’s University, Department of English Literature, and advisor for internationalization support, at the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, Japan.
