From 25 October 2026, Iberia will introduce an updated winter flight schedule for its direct Madrid–Tokyo Narita route, with new departure times and operating days designed to improve passenger convenience and international connections through Madrid.
Iberia has announced changes to its Madrid–Tokyo Narita service for the 2026 winter season, reinforcing its commitment to Japan as a strategic market for both business and leisure travel. The revised schedule will introduce overnight flights in both directions and adjust the weekly operating days to provide a more convenient travel experience, particularly for passengers connecting to other international destinations.
These changes are intended to optimise connections through Madrid-Barajas Airport, one of Iberia’s main international hubs, facilitating onward travel to destinations across Spain, Europe, North Africa and Latin America.
For the business communities of Spain and Japan, the updated schedule represents a further opportunity to strengthen international mobility and facilitate travel between two markets with important commercial and economic ties.
Under the new winter schedule, Iberia will continue operating three weekly direct flights in each direction between Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT).
One of the main changes is the introduction of overnight departures in both directions, allowing passengers to travel during the evening and arrive at their destination the following day.
The updated flight schedule will be as follows:
Madrid (MAD) → Tokyo Narita (NRT)
Tokyo Narita (NRT) → Madrid (MAD)
With the new overnight schedule, passengers travelling from Japan will arrive in Madrid early in the morning, providing opportunities for onward connections and facilitating travel to other destinations served by Iberia and its network.
Likewise, the evening departure from Madrid offers travellers a revised schedule for reaching Tokyo, supporting a more convenient international travel experience.
The revised timetable is part of Iberia’s efforts to improve the travel experience and optimise connections for passengers transferring through its Madrid hub.
Madrid-Barajas serves as an important gateway between Europe and Latin America, making the direct connection with Tokyo particularly relevant for travellers seeking access to a broader international network.
By adapting its flight times and operating days, Iberia aims to offer more efficient itineraries for passengers travelling between Japan and destinations beyond Spain.
For companies with international operations, convenient air connections play an important role in facilitating business meetings, commercial visits, participation in international events and the development of cross-border partnerships.
The updated schedule therefore contributes to making international travel more accessible and convenient for professionals and organisations operating between Japan, Spain and other international markets.
The adjustments to the Madrid–Tokyo Narita route also reflect Iberia’s continued focus on Japan as a strategically important market.
As highlighted in the airline’s announcement, the revised schedule seeks to respond more effectively to passenger needs while maintaining its commitment to offering efficient travel options for both business and tourism.
Direct air connectivity is an important element in fostering closer relationships between countries. Beyond facilitating tourism, international routes help businesses maintain personal connections, explore new commercial opportunities and strengthen cooperation across markets.
For the Spanish business community in Japan, the continued operation of Iberia’s direct service between Madrid and Tokyo is particularly valuable, providing an important transport link between the two countries.
