|International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8 March to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women – while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality.|
To celebrate this global day together and raise awareness of the importance of gender equality in Japan, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Japan (SpCCJ) is hosting a panel discussion inviting both Japanese and Spanish female leaders from different industries; Amadeus, IKEA, Inditex and IE University.
Join us on Monday, March 8 for an evening of discussion, reflection, and discourse with a panel of female business leaders. You’ll hear about their journeys, mindset and collective experiences across different sectors and countries.

Managing Director Japan Amadeus
Travel industry expert, Akimi Takemura, leads Amadeus’ travel agency business in Japan. Akimi joined Amadeus as Managing Director for Japan in July 2016. Based in Tokyo, she is responsible for growing Amadeus’ distribution business in the market. With her passion for technology, innovation and customer-centricity, Akimi is focused on delivering the best solutions, technology and contents to travel.
Akimi has an extensive experiences in the travel industry, having previously worked for American Express since 1988, most recently as President and CEO of American Express Nippon Travel Agency in Tokyo, until joining Amadeus. A Japanese national but a global citizen, her time at American Express saw her working in Paris, New York as well as Japan.
Gabriela has been Commercial Director of IKEA Japan since 2019, providing strategic advice and functional expertise to drive the retail agenda , creating extraordinary growth, securing strong brand positioning, local home furnishing expertise and a seamless omnichannel customer experience.
Previously she was Marketing Director at IKEA Japan and IKEA Spain with an 18-year career in the company. Since then she has focused on building a strong, loved and desired brand; a brand today that is a reference in Spain and a model at an international level. Proof of this is the presence of IKEA in rankings (Meaningful Brands) that place it in the ‘top-5’ of the most relevant brands in Spain.
Actively participates in various management, business and development committees of the company, both nationally and internationally.
Mari has been at the head of Inditex business in Japan since 2016, after over 10 years’ experience as Commercial Director for Japan and North East Asia for ZARA.
She is responsible for leading the company in a new age of retail where providing excellent products, an integrated online-stores customer experience and a solid commitment to sustainable practices are a must for driving further growth in this challenging market environment.

Kaoru is responsible for managing recruitment & admission activities and branding in Japan for IE University. She has 16 years of extensive experience in marketing & B2B business development in the technology sector.
Her career started as an engineer and transformed into sales & marketing after MBA at IE Business School in 2008. In her free time, she practices yoga. Mother of a 7 years old girl.
