Dear members & friends of the SpCCJ,
Sustainability is at the core of any conversation. There is a growing awareness across societies and a pressing need for businesses to reduce emissions, minimize waste, enhance energy efficiency, and boost the use of renewable energy sources.
Architecture and design play a huge role in energy efficiency. Construction design and material innovations are shaping the future of sustainable architecture and urban planning.
We are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming panel with 2 experts in the environmental impact reduction of material use and energy efficiency within the construction sector: IE University Professor Matan Mayer and CIEMAT researcher Ph.D. Beatriz Porcar.
Join us on Monday, May 13 from 18h at Cosentino City Tokyo to discover the latest developments in material science and construction methodologies aimed at reducing carbon footprint, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting sustainability in the built environment, and discover how these innovations can be effectively integrated into current and future projects to achieve a net-zero target.

Guest Speakers
Dr. Matan Mayer, Associate Professor at IE University
Matan Mayer is an Associate Professor at IE University, where he teaches courses in architectural design and construction. His research focuses on the environmental impact reduction of material used in the built environment through the implementation of life cycle design measures. Mayer’s work has been featured in multiple peer-reviewed publications and has been awarded the Peter Rice Prize, the AIA Excellence in Design Award, and the ARCC Research Incentive Award. His previous appointments include a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities, a doctoral research fellowship at the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design at the University of Stuttgart, and a research fellowship at the Composite Construction Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.
Matan is an Editorial Board member at Technology | Architecture + Design (TAD) Journal, where he is also the Issue Editor of the special issue “Circularity” (2023). He holds a doctorate from Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
Dr. Beatriz Porcar, Researcher at CIEMAT (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas)
With an extensive background in energy efficiency within the construction sector, Beatriz’s expertise stems from a PhD in estimating building thermal parameters through inverse modelling, a project that resulted in multiple publications in top scientific journals.
Her career includes appointments in high-impact institutions such as The Spanish Government’s Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), Harvard University, and the Namibian Habitat Research and Development Center, contributing to projects ranging from wind energy load management to sustainable infrastructure rating systems.
