It is an es-teemed event that brings together in-dustry leaders, innovators, and influ-encers from both countries to celebrate the achievements that have helped forge successful partnerships and foster economic growth.
The trophy of the SJBCA is kindly provided by the Spanish porcelain company Lladro Japan
We wish the awardee the most prosperous future of the development of its business which will be th e most beneficial contributions to the economy of both Spain and Japan.

The first Award was given to LaLiga, with President Javier Tebas flying in from Spain to receive the honour. This recognition was for LaLiga’s impressive contributions to the sports business, encompassing broadcasting, digital platforms, fan merchandise, and travel, which have significantly influenced the Japanese football industry.
In 2017, the Award was presented to Rakuten’s CEO, Mr. Hiroshi Mikitani, for Rakuten’s remarkable contributions to the Spain-Japan commercial relationship. Rakuten has made substantial investments in Spain across various sectors and was globally recognised as the Main Global Partner and the first-ever Official Innovation and Entertainment Partner of FC Barcelona, a partnership lasting over four years.
The 2018 ceremony, held at Eneko Tokyo, a hub of Basque cuisine in the city, saw the Award going to Gestamp Autotech Japan, a Spanish multinational automotive engineering company. This award recognised Gestamp’s outstanding performance in Japan, including the launch of its R&D Centre in Tokyo and the opening of a production plant in Mie Prefecture.
In 2019, the awards ceremony took place at the Residence of H.M. Ambassador of Spain to Japan. Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., received the Award for their rapid expansion in Spain, marked by the opening of UNIQLO stores in various locations across the country.
The 2020 award ceremony was held at the Prince Park Tower Tokyo Hotel, where the first joint award was presented to Japan Airlines (JAL) and Amadeus IT Group S.A. in recognition was for their outstanding contributions to the Spain-Japan commercial relationship through their 2019 partnership agreement.
In 2021, the Award was presented to Spanish football legend Andrés Iniesta and his company SPORTS&LIFE (S&L) at the Tokyo EDITION hotel. This honour acknowledged Iniesta’s stellar football career in both Spain and Japan and his contributions to strengthening Spain-Japan business relations through his various projects at S&L.
The 2022 Award was granted to the Japanese company NTT Data, Inc., during a ceremony at the Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon. NTT Data was recognised for its contributions to Spain in areas like direct investment, digital transformation and strategic market value. The prize was accepted by Kazuhiro Nishihata, Representative Director, President, and CEO of NTT Data, Inc.
In the most recent edition in 2023, the ceremony returned to the Tokyo EDITION. The Award was presented to Hitachi Group for establishing their eighth subsidiary in Spain and participating in key industries such as mobility, renewable energy, and IT, which are crucial for developing smarter, greener, and more efficient systems for the future. Mr. Jun Taniguchi, Vice President and Executive Officer of Hitachi, Ltd., and CEO of Hitachi Digital LLC, received the award from the Ambassador of Spain to Japan, H.E. Fidel Sendagorta Gomez del Campillo.
