SUMMARY:Tokyo Comedy Bar – Bringing English-Language Comedy to Japan
DESCRIPTION:Dear SpCCJ Members and friends\, Join us on June 26th for another special CLIC series event and hear from Fergal Daly\, co-founder of Tokyo Comedy Bar\, Japan’s first dedicated English-language comedy venue. Stand-up comedy — where one person stands alone with a mic and speaks directly to the audience — has become a global phenomenon. But in Japan\, comedy has traditionally been more absurd\, physical\, and broad in appeal. Since around 2015\, Fergal and his team have been building Tokyo’s stand-up scene show by show. In 2021\, they took a major step: signing a lease in Shibuya and launching Tokyo Comedy Bar\, right in the middle of a pandemic. In this talk\, Fergal will share the story of starting an English-speaking comedy club in a city where English isn’t widely spoken — and doing it during a time when live events were nearly impossible. He’ll discuss the cultural challenges\, business risks\, and unexpected opportunities of blending global comedy with local culture. And yes\, expect a few laughs along the way. Special thanks to MIDORI.so for venue support. RegistrationAbout the Speaker Fergal Daly is an Irish software engineer who has lived in Tokyo since 2011. In 2018\, he reconnected with a long-lost dream: performing stand-up comedy. What began as a hobby soon became a mission to build Tokyo’s English-language comedy scene. In 2022\, he co-founded Tokyo Comedy Bar\, Japan’s only full-time venue dedicated to English stand-up comedy. About CLIC CLIC is a loose organization of 12 smaller European Chambers of Commerce in Japan created to organize innovative networking events that promote the exchange of ideas between members. CLIC includes the Austrian Business Council and the Belgian-Luxembourg\, Danish\, Dutch\, Finnish\, Greek\, Icelandic\, Irish\, Norwegian\, Spanish\, Swedish\, and Swiss Chambers of Commerce. SUMMARY:【CLIC】 Papabubble - The Sweet Life in Japan
DESCRIPTION:Sugar\, water\, and live candy-making experience are the main ingredients that have built Papabubble’s success in Japan. Similar to Amezaiku\, Papabubble’s candies are made of basic ingredients commonly used in traditional hard candy making. The process involves heating the sugar mixture to a high temperature until it becomes malleable. Confectioners then stretch\, fold\, and shape the candy by hand\, often incorporating intricate designs or personalized messages. Founded in Barcelona\, Spain\, in 2004\, Papabubble is an international chain of artisan candy shops known for their handcrafted hard candies and lollipops. What sets them apart is the live candy-making experience they offer in their stores\, where customers can watch skilled confectioners create intricate designs. Papabubble has expanded globally\, with shops in various countries\, bringing a unique blend of traditional candy-making techniques and modern artistic flair to sweet enthusiasts worldwide. Papabubble Japan was established in 2005 in the popular neighborhood of Nakano. After opening its second shop in 2012\, it has not stopped growing\, now boasting 23 points of sale\, having organized countless pop-up Candy Making Studios all over Japan\, and helping many companies to personalize their events\, adding a unique and sweet touch to corporate occasions. Join us on November 13th for another event of the “CLIC” series\, a loose organization of 12 smaller European Chambers of Commerce in Japan (Austrian\, Belgian-Luxembourg\, Danish\, Dutch\, Finnish\, Greek\, Icelandic\, Irish\, Norwegian\, Spanish\, Swedish and Swiss) and hear from Hiroshi Ochi\, CEO of Papabubble Japan\, about the company’s history of success in Japan. Do not miss this opportunity to learn how simple ingredients and a live candy-making experience have propelled Papabubble to sweet success in Japan. Get inspired by their journey and discover how they have captivated customers’ hearts through craftsmanship and innovation.
