SUMMARY:Tokyo Comedy Bar – Bringing English-Language Comedy to Japan
DESCRIPTION:Dear SpCCJ Members and friends\, Join us on June 26th for another special CLIC series event and hear from Fergal Daly\, co-founder of Tokyo Comedy Bar\, Japan’s first dedicated English-language comedy venue. Stand-up comedy — where one person stands alone with a mic and speaks directly to the audience — has become a global phenomenon. But in Japan\, comedy has traditionally been more absurd\, physical\, and broad in appeal. Since around 2015\, Fergal and his team have been building Tokyo’s stand-up scene show by show. In 2021\, they took a major step: signing a lease in Shibuya and launching Tokyo Comedy Bar\, right in the middle of a pandemic. In this talk\, Fergal will share the story of starting an English-speaking comedy club in a city where English isn’t widely spoken — and doing it during a time when live events were nearly impossible. He’ll discuss the cultural challenges\, business risks\, and unexpected opportunities of blending global comedy with local culture. And yes\, expect a few laughs along the way. Special thanks to MIDORI.so for venue support. RegistrationAbout the Speaker Fergal Daly is an Irish software engineer who has lived in Tokyo since 2011. In 2018\, he reconnected with a long-lost dream: performing stand-up comedy. What began as a hobby soon became a mission to build Tokyo’s English-language comedy scene. In 2022\, he co-founded Tokyo Comedy Bar\, Japan’s only full-time venue dedicated to English stand-up comedy. SUMMARY:【CLIC】 Papabubble - The Sweet Life in Japan
DESCRIPTION:Sugar\, water\, and live candy-making experience are the main ingredients that have built Papabubble’s success in Japan. Similar to Amezaiku\, Papabubble’s candies are made of basic ingredients commonly used in traditional hard candy making. Confectioners then stretch\, fold\, and shape the candy by hand\, often incorporating intricate designs or personalized messages. Founded in Barcelona\, Spain\, in 2004\, Papabubble is an international chain of artisan candy shops known for their handcrafted hard candies and lollipops. What sets them apart is the live candy-making experience they offer in their stores\, where customers can watch skilled confectioners create intricate designs. Papabubble has expanded globally\, with shops in various countries\, bringing a unique blend of traditional candy-making techniques and modern artistic flair to sweet enthusiasts worldwide. Papabubble Japan was established in 2005 in the popular neighborhood of Nakano. After opening its second shop in 2012\, it has not stopped growing\, now boasting 23 points of sale\, having organized countless pop-up Candy Making Studios all over Japan\, and helping many companies to personalize their events\, adding a unique and sweet touch to corporate occasions. SUMMARY:Conversation with Takami Founder Yuji Okamura
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to disrupt the Japanese market as a new startup? How can you beat entrenched Japanese competitors at their own game? How can you bypass Japanese department stores to succeed in prestige and luxury retail? How do you develop long-term relationships with Japanese consumers based on understanding and mutual trust? \nIf you would like the answers to these questions and more\, join us for a conversation with Yuji Okamura\, Takami founder and executive adviser to L’Oréal Japan CEO\, where you can ask him yourself. \nOkamura founded Japanese skincare product company Takami in 1999\, innovating an omnichannel approach\, selling directly to consumers online using a subscription model\, and disrupted the prestigious skincare market and industry in Japan. He defied conventional wisdom that retail success relies on department stores and wholesalers in distribution\, growing revenue to more than $60 million by 2019. The company continued to grow even during the Covid-19 pandemic that began in 2020 while incumbent competitors experienced negative growth or\, worse\, losses. \nIn 2021\, French cosmetics and skincare giant L’Oréal acquired Takami\, whose brand is now globally situated within L’Oréal Luxe. In Japan\, Takami’s business continues to grow while remaining faithful to its direct-to-consumer roots and eschewing department-store distribution\, even today. \nThis event is the latest instalment in the popular Conversation With series. ACCJ Independent Business Committee co-chair Steven Bleistein will begin an on-stage conversation with Okamura\, partway through which the audience will be invited to join. Ample time will be allotted for questions from the audience. \nNo slides and no speeches. Just lively discussion\, your questions\, and lots of business wisdom. If you are a manager involved in any kind of Japan market expansion or development\, or a leader looking to grow your business with gusto\, this event is not to be missed. \n  \nEvent Details\nDate: Tuesday\, April 18\, 2023Time:  12:00-14:00 (in-person);            12:55-14:00 (virtual)Venue: Tokyo American Club\, Manhattan Room (B2F)Fee: JPY 4\,700 SpCCJ members / JPY 8\,100 non-members(this includes drinks and finger food) \nSeats for SpCCJ are limited to 10\, first come first serve. \nThe deadline for registration is Thursday\, April 13\, 2023 (17:00)  or when seats are full. \nOrganize and co-organize: American Chamber of Commerce in Japan\, French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan; Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Japan \n  \nRegistration for this event is closed.  \n

SUMMARY:The Future of Work – Redefining the Workplace & Impact on the Real Estate Market 2022
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the joint seminar with the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ). \nWe now find ourselves over two years deep into a 50-million-person global experiment defining what a modern workplace should look like. Country\, business and community leaders continue to diverge on the question of where and how work should be performed\, while there has been a widespread shift towards repurposing the role of the office to better complement hybrid work. The impact on the office market has been significant and while rents have declined\, there has been a recent uptick in demand\, an indication of a changing mindset in Japan. \nAccording to a recent JLL study\, 57% of employees now prioritise work-life balance over other job perks\, while 52% stated that they miss personal interactions from the office. The new challenge for leaders will be to create an effective work environment that recognises these shifting needs of individuals\, and will entice employees to use the space for teamwork and collaboration. But in order to master this\, companies need to first understand the current and forecasted states of the real estate market. How are developers and key office markets responding to this shift in demand? Who will occupy all these new buildings under construction? And more importantly for you\, what will happen to your office rent going forward? \nThis 90-minute session will be the first of a three-part “Future of Work: Redefining the Workplace” series\, focusing on its impact on the real estate market in 2022 and beyond. We invite you to join us on the morning of June 22 for a hybrid event at the Tokyo EDITION Toranomon for an in-depth breakdown of the above\, where we will be joined by three experts at JLL for what promises to be an unmissable event. \nEvent Details\nDate: Wed\, 22nd June \nTime: 8:00am – 9:30am \nVenue: 2F Meeting Studio at The Tokyo EDITION\, Toranomon. \nPrice: \nIf you would like to attend this event\, \n\n6\,800 BCCJ Members (and SpCCJ Members)\n8\,800 Non-BCCJ Members\n\nIf you would like to attend ONLINE\, \n\n1\,500 BCCJ Members (and SpCCJ Members)\n3\,000 Non-BCCJ Members\n\n*If you are a SpCCJ member\, please contact us to get the discount. \nTo book your spot\, please click here! \nRegistration deadline: Noon\, Monday\, 20th June 2022 \n  \nAre you not a member of the SpCCJ yet? Find out more about the membership category and benefits on our website and contact us at info@spanishchamber.or.jp.
